Is the Residency visa renewable?

Yes, residency visas can be renewed as long as the programme requirements are met.

Some countries allow you to sell the property after a minimum holding period, however some programmes require you to own a qualifying property in order to maintain the validity of your residence visa.

Not all Residency programmes have a citizenship option, even if you live in the country for several years. There are several programmes that do provide citizenship after some years of residency through the programme, including Portugal, Malta and Cambodia. Even when countries provide a citizenship option to investors through a Residency by Investment programme there are usually additional requirements that have to be met to guarantee citizenship eligibility.

Some programmes such as Greece’s Golden Visa allow you to rent out the property after purchase and maintain your residency.

What is a Golden Visa?

A Golden Visa is the name given to some Residency By Investment programmes, usually those that offer a longer visa of 5 or 10 years.

Residency requirements vary depending on the programme with some, like Greece or Portugal having no or minimal residency requirements. However, all programmes require you to travel to the country to complete the application process.
