Brimstone Hill Fortress, a UNESCO world heritage site is one of the best-preserved colonial fortifications offering panoramic views and a glimpse into the Island’s history. The largest living organism in St Kitts is a Saman Tree that is over 400 years old and covers half an acre in the grounds of the colonial era Romney Manor, a historical site open to the public.
The islands relied on the farming of sugarcane for 350 years, however by 2005, the sugar industry had declined, leading the islands to shift focus to tourism. There is a famous St Kitts Scenic railway, originally built to transport sugarcane that now offers scenic tours showcasing the beauty, and historical landmarks of St Kitts, highlighting the transition from a sugar based economy to a tourism-driven one.
St Kitts is also home to the University of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, respected institutions in their fields that have many graduates from across North America. The country has the world’s longest-running Citizenship by Investment programme, and ensures a well-regulated and reputable process.
